13.5 million people (45% of the population) were already facing acute food insecurity (IPC Phase 3 and above), including 16,500 in famine-like conditions (IPC Phase 5-Catastrophic), in the last quarter of 2020, with the worst hunger clustered in conflict affected areas.
According to UNICEF 2020 report, 4.4 million Yemenis were internally displaced including 1.71 million children up until the end of 2020, more than 100,000 of them left their home for a safe destination in the first half of 2020.
According to The Protection Cluster’s Civilian Impact Monitoring Project (CIMP), The war had already caused an estimated 233,000 deaths, including 131,000 from indirect causes such as lack of food, health services and infrastructure
According to UNICEF 2020 report, 12.2 million children are in need of humanitarian assistance, that accounts of more than 35% of Yemen population.
During the period 2016 – 2020, more than 20000 incidents of arbitrary detention, Human Rights has documented that 770 incidents of enforced disappearances and 344 incidents of torture, including 66 deaths in detention centers across Yemen.
Although women are not involved in the ongoing conflict, they are still deeply affected. 1,207 women were among the casualties in the period 2018 – 2020 (505 killed and 702 injured). there are also around 1.2 million pregnant or breastfeeding women are projected to be acutely malnourished in 2021.
March 16, 2021, the first coordination meeting of the Help YEMEN campaign in Malaysia, which was attended by His Excellency the Yemeni Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr. Adel Muhammad Bahamid and the organizations of MRA, MyCare, HALUAN, ISLAMIC RELIEF, ALTAWASUL and INSAN.
